Dissident Hunt

Dissident Hunt is an edgy Run and Gun Platformer. I started this Game 5 years ago, and then abandoned it. Should I continue and turn it into a full game ? You can play a prototype as demo here. It has been tried on Windows XP and Windows 11, and is assumed to work on Windows versions between.  As it uses SDL it can eventually ported to other platforms.

This Demo has one Episode consisting of 12 levels.

You are Horst Beckstein a Bavarian Scientist working in Berlin on a cure for Cancer. One day some dissidents, asociated with various NGOs - both Greens and Cucks - raid your lab, as they hate genetic engineering, hate animal testing and think you are a alien reptile processing children into drugs in the lab's nonexisting cellar. They beat you up and push a shelf full of anabole steroids onto you and leave you to die.

But you don't die. The anabole steroids turn you into an 80s action hero - including mullet and a moustache. You also find a machine gun.  You now go onto a rampage against dissidents through Berlin.  In most levels you have to find a bomb, to destroy the resident NGO's mainframe and then leave throught the exit. There is a lot of edgy polical trashtalk - you hate all factions equally like South Park.

The Gameplay is heavily inspired from Bio Menace (Apogee 1993), but also influenced by Jazz Jackrabbit 1 and 2 (Epic Games 1994/1997). Also other DOS-Games like Commander Keen have inspired it.  There is no affilation with theese corporations though, as well no affilation with Bio Menace remastered.

You can switch weapons at will, by pressing TAB. The UP Key is for interacting with objects like pushing buttons or climbing ladders.

The Game Engine is written in C from scratch, using SDL 1.2 to acess hardware. It also uses HQX for image scaling. Other technical features are support for scripts in the FORTH programming language  and tracker music in the S3M format. 
 

There is Splitscreen Multiplayer for deathmatch and co-op/coop.  You can play with Gamepads/Controllers, just plug it in before you start the game. The Music seems to sound a bit glitchy on Laptops, where proper bass is missing.
